We have successfully negotiated several projects for investors and secured favourable exemptions from fiscal laws. We recently concluded negotiations on behalf of a leading conglomerate in the hospitality industry in the South-East Asia with the Government of Sri Lanka in respect of a project involving the construction, building operation and running of a mixed complex comprising a luxury hotel, high quality residencies and high end shopping. This is one of the largest investment in Sri Lanka totalling Hundred and Fifty Million U.S Dollars. We were able to prevail upon the Government to effect an outright sale of State land consisting of premium property situated in the heart of Colombo. This is the only occasion on which the Government has conveyed by way of sale State land, departing from the policy of not divesting itself of title to State lands and making available land to investors only on the basis of long term business.

We were also able to secure a privately owned land for purchase by the client at a very favourable price. We were associated with the negotiations from the very inception and represented the client before the BOI and several other State agencies. We assisted in incorporating local companies on behalf of the client. We also tendered advice on structuring the companies and arranging the affairs in such a manner as to maximize benefits available by way of exemptions under the revenue laws, Customs Ordinance and the Control of Imports and Exports Act.We prepared the necessary documentation and executed the notarial documents and other contractual documents between the investor and the Government of Sri Lanka, We continue to represent the investor and act as the Company Secretary.
